(This position is a complement to the previously distributed Graduate Research Assistant opportunity for the 2018-2019 academic year (.50 FTE, 20 hours per week). The GRA is a paid half-time position – stipends are based on the school in which the student is enrolled, but they begin at $14,900. Priority deadline is April 15, 2018, and applications will be reviewed until the position is filled.)
This position provides project and research support to the RetailWorks AZ project, an initiative of the Center for the Future of Arizona. RetailWorks AZ is focused on the development and management of a Phoenix area career pathways strategy for front-line, entry level retail workers. The Management Intern role will assist with general administration of the project, research and analysis, communications, and collaborate with assigned senior staff members to gain working knowledge and experience related to the development of a sector-specific workforce development strategy.
The ideal Management Intern candidate should have an interest in the retail sector and/or worked in retail and is pursuing studies in Human Resources, Retail or Business Management or Communications/PR, and possess strong research and project management skills.
This position reports to the CFA Director, Retail Sector Initiative.
Essential Duties:
Serves in an intern capacity for the RetailWorks AZ initiative, which may include the following duties and responsibilities:
• Performs tasks related to the RetailWorks AZ project such as supporting focus groups and survey administration, development of communication tools or other unique projects.
• Assists in conducting research specific to the RetailWorks AZ project.
• Assembles and analyzes statistical data and makes interpretations for application to the project.
• Assists in development of programs, policies or procedures; may coordinate programs as assigned.
• Maintains databases and prepares reports as needed.
• Develops communication tools and resources about the initiative
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field; OR, any equivalent combination of education
and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Desired Qualifications:
• Evidence of pursuing study of Human Resources/Organizational Development, Retail or Business Management or Communications/PR.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the retail sector.
• Demonstrated knowledge of management principles and practices.
• Demonstrated knowledge of program coordination.
• Demonstrated knowledge of basic project management.
• Experience in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
• Experience in planning, organization, coordination of activities.
• Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
• Evidence of effective communication, both verbal and written.
• Experience in developing communication tools and resources
• Experience in the use of personal computer and related software applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Applicants who have an interest in both the Summer 2018 Management Intern and the academic year 2018-2019 Graduate Research Assistant roles are preferred. The 2018-2019 Graduate Research Assistant role is posted on the CFA website.
Working Environment:
• Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse.
• Travel involving operation of a motor vehicle, must have access to an automobile, have and maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license.
